Raz-kids.com

Today, students started using the Reading A-Z website: raz-kids.com. This website allows students to login and read books on their level. Students may also take quizzes and listen to books. Every time they do one of these activities, they can earn star points for their Rocket Room. Be looking for a parent letter to come home soon. Students are able to login at home and there is also an app available to download if you have a tablet or smart phone.

Schema!

Our students have been learning about schema this week. Schema is kind of like your mental filing cabinet. In other words, it's your prior knowledge or understanding of something. We discussed how good readers activate their schema before, during and after reading. Also, we are always adding to our schema as we learn, read and have more life experiences.

Baker's Dozen!

Mrs. Baker's homeroom class earned a special treat today. Whenever they receive compliments or praise for excellent hallway behavior, they earn a letter to eventually spell out "Baker's Dozen." These kiddos achieved this incentive in record time! Keep up the fabulous job, third graders!

Mystery Reader

During the school year, we will periodically have mystery readers come in and read a book or two to us. Today's mystery reader was our very own principal, Mrs. Wagonfield! She chose books written by Robert Munch. The kids absolutely loved listening to her read these stories. Thank you, Mrs. Wagonfield!
