Close Reading

Students are learning all about folktales. To encourage speaking and listening skills, students worked in small groups where they each read their own individual passage. Once they finished, they discussed the similarities and differences in their stories and talked about how the themes overlapped.

Dictionaries!

The Rotary Club of Hamilton generously donated dictionaries to all of our third graders again this year. The students loved receiving the dictionaries and have been using them almost daily.

Students learned about cinquain poetry and wrote their own Halloween themed cinquain poems. Then they typed their poems on chrome books.

Veterans Day Activities

Our students began talking about Veterans Day last week. We reviewed what they knew, what they wanted to discover, and recorded what they learned after our lesson.

Then students wrote about veterans in their writers notebooks.

Fun Fall Poems- using and writing metaphors

Students had a fun learning about metaphors this week. Student generated a large graphic organizer about fall using their five senses to help them. They then took inspiration from their graphic organizer to create a short poem about fall. Students wrote five metaphors for each of their poems. The students were shining stars again today!

Students learned about similes today (comparing two things using the words "like" or "as"). They practiced by writing their own similes describing ice cream.
