Leveled Books

For those of you who came to conferences last night, a big "thank you" is in order. We really appreciate you taking the time to get involved and meet with us, and we're really looking forward to our conferences tonight and next week, too.

Many families shared that they would like a list of books on certain reading levels. This is such a great idea! I've listed some links below that have numerous books with their grade equivalent level. So, if the book is a 3.1, it would be suitable for a student reading on a level equal to third grade, month 1.

Mrs. Baker Needs Your Input

Hi Parents & Families,

I recently sent home a letter letting you know a bit about the research I am doing for my Master's degree. My ultimate goal is to make parent communication convenient and easily accessible for parents. I want the families of my students to feel connected to the classroom and to feel like they can contact me at anytime.

If you could please help me out by following this link and answering a few questions to guide my research, I'd appreciate it. Your answers will help me make this website/blog more helpful and insightful for you.

Thanks so much!

Here are both of the homeroom schedules in case you need to see them. This way you can have this at your fingertips whenever you need it instead of writing it down (if I write it down, I can't ever find that piece of paper again:). Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Author of the Month

Your child may have mentioned that we do an author study each month. The month of September is devoted to Kevin Henkes. We've read Wemberly Worried and Chrysanthemum this week. He's written many books and I've provided some websites and additional information below if you or your child would like to check them out. Have a great weekend!

Click here if you want to visit Kevin's actual site.

There are some activities and fun things to do if you click here.

1st Week of School

Congratulations!!! We made it through the first week of school. This week has gone wonderfully well and I'm so thrilled with both classes. They have done a great job.

Just a reminder that next week Reading & Language Arts homework will be assigned daily.
Students need to read every weeknight and then additional L.A. homework will be given Monday-Thursday as a review for what we did in class.

Mr. Arnold and I have been checking planners daily. We check to ensure that students write assignments in their planners and to see if they have a parent/guardian signature.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know!

Have a great weekend! I'll be hitting Jolly's up this weekend before they close....nothing like   Jolly's root beer.

Back to School Ideas

I found a great link with some great ideas for getting ready to go back to school. Take a look!

Snacks

Students can feel free to bring in snacks or water to school with them and enjoy them in my class. Water bottles must have a cap to avoid spills. Also, snacks need to be healthy (sorry, no Snickers or M&M's....even though they are fabulous:)

I've added a few ideas from the Web if you'd like to try some new snacks. Enjoy! (you may need to click on the images to enlarge them)
